Beauty vs. carnage.
Easy decision. And the dough hangs around town. Bonus!

I feel there needs to be a much more economical way to log, to use these resources without wasting them and to regrow. This takes time and proper management, as well as respect for the land which BCTS does not have either quality.

Current (tourism) and new industries (hemp) leave much smaller footprints, provide work for local people, encourage travellers to come visit. There are many economic benefits to leverage besides merely shipping abroad raw lumber…
Thank you

It’s an excessive amount of an island to log, it will have an impact on the residents, on visitors to the island and destructive to the environment.

Bowen Island is so back-to-nature and homey. Change is not always the right thing to do, even if forestry companies are looking for other forests to earn money from.

I’m signing this because Bowen Island is a BC treasure. Logging even a small portion of this tiny island would be tragic; to it’s eco system, wildlife and its natural beauty. Not to mention how it would affect the people who live there, who would lose all of the things they went there for. And, would experience a great loss not only in life style but in property value, with the ugliness that would be left in the wake of a logging project. The loss of income for the inhabitants of this island would be devastating. This is a destination for tourists and other British Colombians who go there to experience its unique setting.

This will damage the small island I live on. Industrial logging will hurt our economy and have a negative impact on our water sources which are already under stress.

Jul 22, 2017
Feller-Bunchers are like ocean trawlers. And ought to be banned from the face of the earth. This proposed clear cutting makes a mockery of Canada’s supposed intention to offset global warming. It looks like suburban subdivisions of the ’50’s. ,,BCTimber Sales ought to visit Wildwood outside of Nanaimo and learn how to manage a forest with respect and intelligence! …instead of what looks like greed and oblivion.

My sister lives on Bowen Island and our family has spent many wonderful days there with her, enjoying the natural beauty of the place. In addition to our personal appreciation of the island’s trees, from a climate change perspective, we can’t afford to lose any more forest.

The forests of our communities are our greatest assets – they are the lungs of our towns and cities and they turn polluted air into fresh breathable air. Bowen Island is a natural place that we treasure – we love it for its forests. Preserve the biodiversity of Bowen Island for future generations. Please! Those forests are sacred! We need them for the community to thrive in good health – and globally we need those forests to survive.

Bowen Island is part of Metro Vancouver. Proposing to log 28% of Bowen is like proposing to log Stanley Park. It is a totally inappropriate proposal. Especially for environmental reasons: BCTS has a very poor record on this. I do not trust them.

Don’t log it. Let it grow. Make it a park. Employ the loggers as Forest Custodians. We need them, so our forests don” burn up altogether. We need the trees so close to our urban sprawl. Planetary lungs. Please don’t cut them down.

The Squamish nation named Bowen Island “Xwlíl’xhwm” – the place where the Deer were created. The forests of our island are an integral part of the health, beauty and biodiversity that makes Bowen an International destination for Ecotourism and home base and source of income for a diverse and passionate community. BC Timber Sales has a short sighted Annual Cut quota in mind, however, has miscalculated the mindset they are up against with Bowen Island residents. We love our island home and will protect it, no matter what.

There are so few open spaces to be enjoyed that have such diverse ecosystems, it does not make sense to risk upsetting the balance of nature. Ferry fen is a unique and protected nature reserve, any disruption or change to the areas within miles could effect this reserve.

Firstly I am concerned about how it will affect our water table.
It will create havoc on the ferry and the toll of large trucks on the roads
will be huge. In the 60’s Grafton Road collapsed one winter from the trucks building Bluewater
We have to realize we have a good mine financially for the Provence in maintaining our natural beauty.
